Pawleys Island, SC is only a few miles long and the area has opposed many high density developments and big box retail stores. The only larger apartment complex in Pawleys Island is Litchfield Oaks Apartments, which is located just south of Litchfield by the Sea.
Many of the other larger proposed developments have been blocked or turned down. Conservation and protecting the wetlands have been an important issues for many of the local groups. With the lack of Apartments in Pawleys Island and Litchfield Oaks being the only large apartment complex, many of the available rental properties are individually owned. In most situations owners purchased properties as investment or second homes that they are just not ready to use yet.
